HIV-AIDS Prevention & Treatment Our HIV-AIDS prevention and treatment efforts are targeted to address the estimate that 1 in every 5 adults in Zambia has HIV-AIDS. Most of those infected will die within 5 years due to malnutrition, a weakened immune system, and the absence of needed medications. The Zambia Project takes a comprehensive approach to fighting the spread of HIV-AIDS by: (a) Providing HIV-AIDS education; (b) Teaching HIV-AIDS prevention efforts (including both abstinence and the use of condoms); (c) Reducing the number of children, particularly orphans, being used as sex slaves; (d) Empowering destitute women to support themselves and their families so they do not resort to prostitution; (e) Importing and distributing HIV-AIDS medication; (f) Promoting better nutrition among the general population and especially among infected persons; (g) Encouraging a larger number of people to get tested; and (h) Developing community projects to help individuals and families directly affected by HIV-AIDS.
